Book Review: Ripped Backsides by Richard Cabut
by David Estringel
“I’m on a quest to find the psyche of the city—swirls with glimpsed faces, found materials, geometric literary shapes. A stream of sparks. Evening alchemy, fissures and rifts where cities lose their hold—existentialist dreams that are a metaphor for…my own bearings, perhaps. A display of self-excavation—psychic archaeology, if you like.”
—Richard Cabut (from Ripped Backsides’ Introduction)
Richard Cabut is a British author – his previous books include the hit work of modern poetry Disorderly Magic and Other Disturbances (Far West Press) – ‘subterranean scenes, picturesque ruins, neon glowing, Chelsea Girls, the damned, the demimonde, the elemental, being on the edge of being pinned down by our ghosts’ – and the Freudian 80s cult Looking for a Kiss (PC-Press), which has been adapted for screen. Also, Punk is Dead: Modernity Killed Every Night (Zer0 Books).
Woohoo!
BIG thanks to Chill Subs for the props. Blood+Honey is honored to be in such good company!!!

Book Review: PTSD Martini by Dario Cvencek
by David Estringel
“…generational trauma and / undiagnosed PTSD / are a powerful / cocktail / the hangover can last / for decades…”
—from “500-WORD D.E.I. STATEMENT”
“At their core, despite the sense of loss and chaos and alienation one perceives through their reading, Cvencek’s poems convey an optimism (if not in glimpses and glimmers) that promise the reader a hopeful release from his or her own demons.””

Note from the EIC…
Hello All,
The flu has come a knockin’, so I am keeping things brief for this monthly update. January 2026 not only brings us the start of a new year but Blood+Honey’s NINTH issue since its inception May 2025. We have some outstanding poetry, fiction, CNF, and digital art in store for you this January, as well as some content updates planned for later this month, so make sure you visit us daily for regular updates.
2025 brough many auspicious things Blood+Honey’s way for which we are truly grateful. Not only did we get some very flattering critical nods from Chill Subs and The Christies, but we brought on a slew of talented writers to join our editorial team. We love what they bring to the publication, and we are eager to bring more talent on board in the new year.
We hope everyone’s holidays were wonderful and wish everyone nothing but the best for the coming year.
Enjoy!

Blood+Honey Press
Planning is currently underway for Blood+Honey Press, the publishing arm of Blood+Honey (or maybe Blood+Honey will be its lit mag arm…Hmmm). Concepts are being entertained. Ideas thrown up into the air…where they land…who knows, but rest assured it will be awesome.
Likely, chapbooks and magazine merch will be the primary focus on Blood+Honey Press when it launches, moving on to larger projects later, but it is too soon to tell for now until details get worked out. The “not knowing” is absolutely titillating. No?
