of questionable qualities

by Amanda Andrews

1.      I’m a rockhound

Placing pieces of gravel and cement in my pockets

until they weigh me down against terrestrial crust.

2.      I’m a conchologist,

Taping mollusk to my ears so that the songs of

the ocean may tune out metropolitan screams.

3.      I’m an osteology hermit,

scavenging tiny bones off forest floors so that I

can uncover why wolves with sharp teeth and thirst for meat show more empathy than

petty politicians.

4.      I’m a nephologist,

Counting the curves in celestial clouds in hopes

I can stop silver iodine and clear the rain within myself.

5.      I’m a failing anemologist,

Trying to catch wisps of wind only to have it slip through my bony fingers and leave in my mind

the fear of butterfly effecting wings.

6.      I’m hypersomnia

trying to be an oneiromancer, only I’m also a

cranky insomniac unable to create soundless dreams.
