lemon

by Michael Hackney

This love life is a quiet one, if

I’m alive at all.

Its like standing on the deck of a ship drinking

whiskey sours alone.

The gods have set forth their grand schemes above,

leaving me lost out to sea,

wrecked and unanointed.

And the wind? She rages,

and the mouth of the muse

longs to be kissed.
