words are inert
by Marty Shambles
for Auden
it is not enough to say words
are inert. you have to say why
and how they’re inert but that
requires words which
just fucking sit there, being not
useless but… you know… just there.
imaginations of writers collaborate with imaginations of readers
and together they make something that matters, maybe for a
moment, maybe more and the words illuminate a holy picture show…
then to again be inert symbols
scrawling the walls of this prison.
