please act normal—whatever that means
by Jordan Trethewey
“Just because it’s at you / doesn’t mean it’s about you”
—Special Needs parenting proverb
I want you to just
act your age, not your trauma size, because
mornings are bad when it’s
just you and me, at
sunrise, with dog, and daughter. You
won’t take your pills, dress, eat. Doesn’t
it bother you, to treat me mean?
Every morning, and evening, the same. It’s
weird noises, not listening, laughing about
my frustration. It will forever be about you.
