Digital Art by Anne Anthony

Artist’s Statement:

Michelangelo once stated that “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”  For me, I was the artist stuck in marble unable to get free. I lived with a disconnect between what my mind’s eye perceived and what my hands were capable of creating. Oh, those hands of mine failed me as a child, a young girl who wanted more than anything to put down on paper or canvas the images she imagined. Finally, as an adult, I discovered a path to creating those images through technology. When I write ‘technology’ I don’t mean artificial intelligence but software that allows me to combine my photographs and my artwork and turn them into digital collages. I typically start with a single image, a photograph or a photograph of one of my paintings and apply layers of other images over or under it using the software and play with filters to alter its lighting or color or texture. The choices made, the combinations used, and the thump in my heart when I recognize it’s complete is the ‘art’ of my process. Oh, how I love that thump.
